The Weir

Halls Creek Road, Manilla NSW 2346

In the 1950-60's, the weir was a popular area for families and the younger generation to visit. Water flow was more consistent than it is today.

Swimming and diving took place on the far side of the river, and further down the river, near the lower weir, school swimming was held. In one area was a rope swing, attached to a tree, and fishing was always popular along the river, particularly below the little weir.

The weir is a picturesque place to picnic and relax. Children and adults alike may enjoy looking for birds and animals along the river, including the birds listed in the image to the right.

Brochure from www.tamworthbirdwatchers.com listing 10 birds for children to spot along the river and around the weir area.
